The programme provides an in-depth course study opportunity in: Social Entrepreneurship & Sustainability, Wildlife Ecotourism, and Indian History & Culture. East Tennessee State University Batch – A Transformative Student Immersion Program

The Anandilal Podar Trust proudly hosted a distinguished group of 12 students and 4 professors from East Tennessee State University (ETSU), USA, for an unparalleled student immersion program under the Destination Nawalgarh initiative. This initiative was designed to provide international students with an in-depth, experiential learning opportunity, offering a firsthand understanding of India’s diverse cultural heritage – with a special focus on the historic Shekhawati region of Rajasthan.

This program was conducted as part of the Sustainability and Social Entrepreneurship Program, which enables students to engage with global sustainability and social entrepreneurship challenges while immersing themselves in the rich cultural and historical landscape of India.

An Immersive Journey into India’s Rich Cultural Tapestry

During the program, the ETSU students participated in a transformative experience, blending academic insights with hands-on learning that bridged cultural boundaries. The curated itinerary ensured a comprehensive understanding of India’s art, history, architecture, and traditions, fostering both personal and professional growth.

Exploring Nawalgarh’s Architectural Marvels

Students and professors visited centuries-old havelis, intricately painted frescoes, and sacred temples, gaining firsthand knowledge of Rajasthan’s architectural grandeur and its evolution over time. Professors and students engaged in thought-provoking discussions on topics like Rajasthan’s history, artistic heritage, and socio-cultural dynamics, deepening their understanding of India’s rich past witnessed at the Podar Haveli Museum.

Cultural Immersion & Traditional Festivities

The group actively participated in vibrant Indian festivals, experiencing age-old customs, music, and dance that define the soul of Rajasthan. Students visiting in January had the opportunity to experience the kite flying festival – Makar Sakranti firsthand where they flew kites with the locals and participated in a lantern festivity as well.

Hands-on Experiences with Rajasthani Crafts & Cuisine

They had the opportunity to learn traditional pottery, fresco painting, puppetry, and textile work, under the guidance of local artisans who have been preserving these crafts for generations. A major highlight was the culinary experience, where students learned to prepare and savor iconic Rajasthani dishes, including dal baati churma, gatte ki sabzi, and kachoris, gaining insight into the deep-rooted traditions of Indian cuisine – as well as learn some of them!

Student Projects on Sustainability & Social Entrepreneurship

As part of the Sustainability and Social Entrepreneurship Program, students were not just participants but active contributors to the local community. They worked on real-world projects focused on social impact, sustainability, and rural development, applying entrepreneurial thinking to create meaningful change.
